All-thrift: Personal finds, faves

As promised, here are some fave thrift stores and finds from each. If you're in Austin or surrounding areas, be sure to check 'em out!

furniture

Salvation Army - best place for inexpensive furniture - Got six Danish chairs for only $80!

clothes

Buffalo Exchange
- on "The Drag" near UT - the best place for trendy but their prices have gone up a lot within the past decade. Got these kick-ass boots for $65!

Just Between Us - This store has fair prices and very knowledgable staff! They've been at the same location more than 20 years but only found 'em in 2011--sad! Also, be sure to watch Community Impact for their 25-percent-off coupon! Found this "stylus" (ha-ha-ha) Targus purse for $15 (new with tags!)

Restyle - most expensive consignment place of the bunch but they actually sort all clothing by color and size which is exceedingly helpful! Their plus-size area is pitiful with very little selection. Also, I really don't like that they won't display both shoes at once (you've got to ask -- quelle horreur!)

The Exchange - Opened in 2012 on the square in Georgetown. Have only been here once, and it's pricer and comparable to Restyle (their tags and overall layout also look very similar except this place is much larger...hmmm. Might be a connection?) Also, customers must ask to try on both shoes.

Grrrrr. This is not the shopping experience that nutures our inner Grace Kelly!

Goodwill - got this entire sectional for $75! - Anderson Mill location - Also, their Computer Works (used computers and techie goodies) is a cool crapshoot and once found a working Wacom tablet there (with pen) for $10! Still love it, too!

Caring Place (Georgetown)
This organization is wonderful and they have the most reasonable prices by far in Central Texas on clothing and household items (with special thanks to T.T. for reminding me how wonderful this place really is!)

Room Service Vintage - best place for inexpensive vintage (with special thanks to Laura S.) - Fave find here was this fake Eames chair with matching ottoman for only $300 and it's in beautiful condition! Here's the story on the original. Love 'em, so!

Happy hauting!

Cost for these thrify finds: $600
Approximate retail cost: $7,000

To put it another way, if you take that $6,500 you would have paid retail and compound invest it for 20 years at 2.5 percent annual interest, this future money (not counting inflation) would be worth about $10,700! The $600 from the thrift store purchases would be worth less than $1,000 using the same calculations (but the stuff is much more fun to have at these prices!)
