The Bhagavad Gita

Please watch these lectures, if you haven't already. The series on The Meaning of Life with Dr. Jay L. Garfield (U of Pittsburgh) from the Teaching Company and the first four lectures about the Bhagavad Gita will change your entire perspective on humanity and our place in the universe. The verse is hauntingly beautiful and easy to follow (at least in the English translations within the video.)

“A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return.”

In brief, life is about finding and fulfilling our most sacred duty through yoga ("discipline" - not power poses.) It's about withholding our own desires for what is just and for the greater good in all the universe and for all beings. Each person must find this greater good for oneself and honor its place within the universe as well as recognize and honor this same sacredness in others.

The Bhagavad Gita is an lyrical look
at life through war and, ultimately,
one's own place in the universe.

I like to read this poem as philosophy rather than literal truth; however, it's a powerful message either way. Will you enter the chariot?
