Happy Halloween! Stay away from Sixth!
If you're going to Sixth Street this year, please don't. Not worth it, and sooooo lame.
During its opening week in early October, Hunny and I went to see The Master at The Alamo Ritz. Great theater and they have the best soft pretzels on the planet along with a 70 mm screen! Yeeeee-haaaaw! Sadly, the movie was just meh but the acting by Joaquin Phoenix, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams is phenomenal so it's worth going for that reason as well as the cinematography (but not the script).
We parked near the city garage on 5th Street (about a block from Esther's Follies, which had no show that night), and, after getting back to the car, shared our unease the whole time about the exceedingly eerie, dark, and desolate walk from car to Alamo and back.
Tonight, a lady tells me that her nephew went to 6th a few months ago to celebrate his 21st birthday party. Not surprisingly, he got drunk, remembers very little, and, horrifically, was jumped and beaten while waiting for his friend to return from the men's room. Although not being dead is a definite plus, he was left with deep emotional wounds as well as $12,000 in dental surgery to fix several missing teeth.
Be aware that if you go, you're always on your own. Austin is so much larger now and there simply aren't enough police to patrol all areas like overly-nostalgic yesteryear. Hopefully, tonight will see lots of paid overtime but with few customers.
Or, stay home and eat candy. Have you seen these, yet? Ridiculously good!!
